The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning men not to buy erectile dysfunction drugs such as Viagra or Levitra over the counter
The FDA is advising consumers not to purchase these drugs and to discontinue use after several months if you experience an erection that lasts more than four hours.
In a published in theMay issue ofMedscape,A. Patrick O’Connor, MD, reported that two men in their 20s experienced persistent or recurrent symptoms of erectile dysfunction. O’Connor and his colleagues at the Harvard Health Publishing Company conducted a clinical study to determine whether buying medications that contain sildenafil (Viagra) or tadalafil (Cialis) in conjunction with nitrates can cause a prolonged erection.
The results of the study are published in theAnnals of Family Medicine.
Viagra, which is sold under the brand name Revatio, and tadalafil are approved for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. However, they may not be appropriate for people with certain health conditions or those taking certain medications, such as blood pressure medications.
Cialis, which is sold under the brand name Tadalafil, is approved for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a condition characterized by an enlarged prostate.
The FDA has warned consumers to avoid purchasing medications that contain sildenafil or tadalafil while using these products. Sildenafil is not approved for use in treating ED. However, tadalafil may be prescribed off-label for other conditions, including but not limited to angina, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and certain types of erectile dysfunction.
According to the FDA, sildenafil and tadalafil may cause side effects such as headache, dizziness, flushing, stomach upset, back pain, muscle aches, indigestion, and back pain. These side effects may be temporary and manageable.
Consumers with specific health conditions or who are taking certain medications should discuss the risks and benefits of these products with their healthcare provider before using these products.

Viagra 50mg Tablet works by inhibiting the enzyme called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5), which causes the blood vessels to relax. This results in an increased amount of blood flow into the penis, helping produce an erection during sexual stimulation. Other ingredients in Viagra 50mg Tablet are, dapoxetine (Sildenafil), cimetidine, cimetidine, edamagliflogil (nolvadex), indantabaker (savelox), and sericemaglipogebore (UG-viagra).
Take the tablet on an empty stomach or after a light meal.
